BARK Air launched in 2024. It describes itself as “the world’s first air travel experience designed specifically for dogs first, and their human companions second.” The airline offers dogs and their owners special flights to Fort Lauderdale, New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Lisbon, Seattle, San Francisco, and Madrid. Today, it announced that it’s adding a charter service to its offerings to take dogs to more places around the world.
Over the past year, BARK Air has flown more than 1,000 dogs on 142 flights across almost 400,000 miles. Some of these flights were operated for free as BARK Air assisted in the LA County evacuation that helped relieve wildfire-overwhelmed shelters. BARK Air has also increased frequency on its core routes and is seeing a return rate for passengers and their pooches around 12%.
If the published schedule does not work, BARK Air now offers private charters. These are ideal for relocating long distances, planning once-in-a-lifetime getaways, or connecting to a scheduled departure from a BARK Air hub. Charters can be booked at dogsflyfirst.com. Matt Meeker, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of BARK, said:
When we launched BARK Air last year, our goal was to challenge the norms of dog travel by creating an experience that treats dogs not as cargo, but as VIP guests. One year later, we’re proud to have delivered on that promise, offering thousands of dogs and their humans a stress-free, joy-filled way to explore the world together. This milestone is a testament to our unwavering belief that dogs deserve better—and our commitment to building a dog-first future doesn’t stop here. We’re just getting started.”
BARK Air focuses on dogs and makes sure that the experience is catered to these canines. This includes:
- Humans are contacted by a BARK Air concierge in advance of a flight to collect information about pets and their human’s travel plans.
- Dogs and their companions need to arrive at the airport 45 to 60 minutes before takeoff for check-in. Dogs can meet other furry flyers while their human companions are treated to meals prepared by onsite chefs.
- Before boarding, “a BARK Air concierge will welcome furry companions at the gate to help them settle into their experience through socialization and dog-centric cabin preparation.”
- The aircraft will be treated to a “Dogs Fly First” flight prep with calming pheromones, music, and colors set up. All furry passengers will have access to calming treats, noise-canceling ear muffs, and calming jackets in flight.
- BARK-branded treats, snacks, and surprises will be provided throughout the flight.
Anthony’s Take: I love the concept of BARK Air and if it’s in your budget this is a great way to take your dog along in a way that will make them less stressed and pampered. Happy first anniversary, Bark Air!
