A female passenger reportedly assaulted a 12-year-old boy on an Allegiant Air flight between Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) and Hagerstown Regional Airport (HGR) on Memorial Day. Allegedly, during boarding the boy called her “Miss Piggy,” said she was “fat,” and said that she would not be able to fit in her seat.
A police report states that 46-year-old Kristy Krampton and her family were on the Allegiant flight about to return from Disney World when the incident occurred. It appears that the woman and boy knew each other, were traveling together, and were possibly related (the police report does not specify). While in flight she reportedly took away his phone. This caused him to push her arm off of the shared armrest. After that, she allegedly began slapping him, hitting him with a closed fist, striking him with a water bottle, and even smashing his face into the window. Horrified flight attendants had authorities board the plane. While the boy had no physical injuries, they went off of eyewitness reports and determined that she “went beyond typical disciplinary actions with multiple strikes to the head.”
Krampton told police that the boy had been “rude and disrespectful” during their Disney World trip. Police took her into custody and booked her into Seminole County Jail on charges of child abuse. She was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on July 1st. Even with this onboard craziness, the flight only took a 30-minute delay.
Anthony’s Take: This familial squabble bubbled over into the public. The woman should not have touched the child and the boy should have watched his mouth. Regardless of what he said, he should not have been physically struck.
