Back in November, I wrote about EVA Air planning a new route between Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) to/from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). This has been solidified and now has a start date of October 3rd.

The Taiwanese airline, known for its Hello Kitty jets and lounges, will begin 3x weekly service (on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) to/from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). EVA Air currently flies to the following US airports:

  • Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
  • Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
  • New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)

EVA Air will use Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on this route. These offer 38 Royal Laurel (Business Class), 64 Premium Economy, and 211 Economy Class seats. EVA Air already serves nearby Houston, so this addition is an interesting one. The airport is American Airlines’ largest hub and EVA Air might be putting a stake in the ground to deter its competitor, STARLUX Airlines, from flying there as it is also trying to enter oneworld® and could cozy up to American.

EVA Air’s President, Clay Sun, said:

EVA Air has been operating cargo service to and from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport since 1998. Now, we are seeing strong passenger demand for this route due to the influx of numerous companies in recent years and strong economic and population growth. Dallas has become one of Texas’ economic and commercial centers. The opening of the direct passenger flight to Dallas makes us the only airline in Asia to operate two routes to Texas. As the third largest airport in the world in terms of passenger traffic and transfer to major cities in the United States, Central and South America, having service in this market creates more convenience for our passengers.”

Anthony’s Take: The Hello Kitty jet flies to Chicago and I really want to fly it. It will be interesting to see what comes of this route and if STARLUX does add its own flights to Dallas.

Yes! And the Hello Kitty plane is pretty amazing. My wife asked if she could take a signature tablecloth as a souvenir and was given two.
