A JetBlue flight from Guayaquil, Ecuador’s José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE) to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) hit extreme turbulence while approaching the Florida airport early this morning. Seven passengers and a crew member onboard the Airbus A320 were injured as a result.

JetBlue flight B61256 “experienced sudden severe turbulence as it neared Florida,” according to a statement that the Associated Press reported on. It is unclear whether these eight people were wearing their seatbelts at the time. They were taken by Broward County Fire-Rescue upon arrival to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

No other details have been released around the severity of the injuries.

Anthony’s Take: Wear your seatbelts. Turbulence can come on suddenly and pose a risk to those who are not buckled in. Hopefully, none of the injuries here were that serious and the eight individuals recover quickly.
