Delta Air Lines is adding another South Pacific route to its map. The Atlanta-based carrier will begin flying 3x weekly between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Melbourne Airport (MEL).
3x per week

Aviation insider, @JonNYC, first broke the news of this new route. Melbourne is my favorite city in Australia. I tell people that it reminded me of a mix of Europe and Brooklyn. The new flights will launch in December 2025 and fly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to Australia and Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays back to Los Angeles. It will be flown with an Airbus A350-900 aircraft that offers 32 Delta One®, 48 Premium Select, 36 Comfort+, and 190 Main Cabin seats.
This route will face competition from United Airlines and Qantas. Both airlines operate this route up to 1x daily during peak season. Delta has done a good job of adding South Pacific routes from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Other destinations include:
- Auckland Airport (AKL) (up to 1x daily)
- Brisbane Airport (BNE) (3x weekly in season)
- Papeete’s Fa’a’ā International Airport (PPT) (3x weekly and complemented by Air France flights on this route)
Anthony’s Take: It’s good to see Delta continue to expand in the South Pacific. I still find the experience with Delta to be the most luxe of the US carriers and look to see it continue to grow its map. It will likely never be as diverse and expansive as what United offers, but Delta has lots of places to add where it can be profitable.
