Delta Air Lines flight DL2983 took off from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and was en route to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) when the Airbus A319 nearly crashed into a T-38 Air Force jet on Friday afternoon. The scarily close call thankfully ended with everyone okay.

The Delta flight was cleared for takeoff around 3:15 PM EST. Four US Air Force T-38 Talons were doing a flyover of Arlington National Cemetery per a statement from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA). The Delta flight crew followed instructions from the traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS). It is being debated as to how close the aircraft were to each other. The FAA is understandably conducting an investigation. The Delta flight had 131 passengers and five crewmembers on board.
Morgan Durrant, a spokesperson for Delta Air Lines, said:
Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people. That’s why the flight crew followed procedures to maneuver the aircraft as instructed.”
Anthony’s Take: Thankfully, this incident ended up okay without injuries or loss of life. The fatal crash near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) from January still weighs heavy and these aircraft were not far from there.
