Delta Air Lines has announced the launch of its first-ever daily nonstop service from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Porto’s Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO). This will expand its transatlantic network with even more ways for travelers to connect to Europe. The new route, beginning May 21st, is part of Delta’s summer schedule, which includes seven new European routes.

This route will run daily using Boeing 767-300 aircraft. These offer 26 Delta One®, 18 Delta Premium Select, 21 Delta Comfort, and 151 Delta Main seats. Porto’s Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) is one of many new routes that Delta will offer in summer 2026. I’m excited for its recent additions to Malta International Airport (MLA) and Sardinia’s Olbia-Costa Smeralda-Prince Karim Aga Khan IV Airport (OLB) (more here).

Porto, a city set along the banks of the Douro River, is celebrated for its blend of historic charm and modern vitality. With its colorful waterfront, winding cobblestone streets, and iconic azulejo-tiled churches, Porto invites visitors to explore its unique character at every turn. The city is also known globally for its port wine cellars (I’ve had some great port there). It’s also a top culinary destination featuring fresh Atlantic seafood, northern Portuguese specialties, and innovative modern dining experiences. Beyond the city, travelers can venture into the vineyards of the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or relax along Portugal’s northern coast, where golden beaches meet the Atlantic Ocean.

Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta, said:

Delta’s new nonstop service from JFK to Porto is part of seven new European routes launching next summer, giving customers even more opportunities to experience Europe and enjoy our award-winning service and premium onboard experience. Whether discovering Portugal or traveling to our other new destinations such as Sardinia and Malta, these additions expand choice for our customers and reinforce JFK’s role as a leading global gateway.”

The addition of Porto strengthens Delta’s service to Portugal, complementing its:

  • Year-round daily service to Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
  • Seasonal daily service to Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)

Anthony’s Take: Delta is making some nice moves to add more European cities. It’s dwarfed by the number that United flies and that number just seems to keep increasing. It’s nice to see new choices for summer 2026.
