BARK Air launched last year. It describes itself as describes itself as “the world’s first air travel experience designed specifically for dogs first, and their human companions second.” The airline offers dogs and their owners special flights to New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Lisbon, Seattle, San Francisco, and Madrid. Today, it announced that it’s adding Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to its route map.
Flights between Westchester County Airport (HPN) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) will begin on April 10th (and operate up to 4x monthly) using Embraer ERJ 135 aircraft. Fares start around $900.
Matt Meeker, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at BARK, shared the following when the airline launched last year:
When we started BARK in 2011, we were on a mission to disrupt the dog space and create products designed for dogs and their humans. We are excited to take the insights we’ve learned over the years to create an experience that is truly dog-first, which is drastically different from just accepting dogs – from the ground to the skies. We believe this initiative will elevate awareness of our brand’s mission and values, introduce more dog lovers to the BARK family, and help enrich the lives of dogs and their people around the world.”
BARK Air focuses on dogs and makes sure that the experience is catered to these canines. This includes:
- Humans are contacted by a BARK Air concierge in advance of a flight to collect information about pets and their human’s travel plans.
- Dogs and their companions need to arrive at the airport 45 to 60 minutes before takeoff for check-in where dogs can meet other furry flyers their human companions are treated to meals prepared by onsite chefs.
- Before boarding, “a BARK Air concierge will welcome furry companions at the gate to help them settle into their experience through socialization and dog-centric cabin preparation.”
- The aircraft will be treated to a “Dogs Fly First” flight prep with calming pheromones, music, and colors set up. All furry passengers will have access to calming treats, noise-canceling ear muffs, and calming jackets in flight.
- BARK-branded treats, snacks, and surprises will be provided throughout the flight.
Anthony’s Take: I love that BARK Air offers dog-specific flights. This seems like the most relaxed and pampered way to take your pooch on a trip with you. It’s great to see BARK Air expanding.
