American Airlines announced today that it is bringing added comfort and elevated service to one of its most popular and profitable domestic routes. Starting October 5th, the airline will introduce Premium Economy for the first time on select flights between New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
Passengers booking Premium Economy on this route can expect the following perks and amenities:
- Priority check-in, security, and boarding
- Spacious seats with more width and extra legroom
- Personal amenity kits featuring skincare items and travel essentials
- Elevated dining with complimentary alcoholic beverages
- Ostrichpillow® lumbar pillows and crepe weave blankets
- In-seat power outlets and on-demand entertainment on larger seatback screens
- Noise-reducing headphones
Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer, said:
We are excited to provide customers the opportunity to experience our Premium Economy service on our premier domestic route. With the domestic debut of Premium Economy, customers will enjoy a more comfortable seat, enhanced amenities and elevated dining with hot entree choices when traveling coast-to-coast.”
Delta Air Lines offers its Premium Select product on this exact route and United Airlines flies aircraft with its United Premium Plus℠ between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). American will begin selling tickets for flights with Premium Economy on July 28th. These flights will take off starting on October 5th using Boeing 777-200ER aircraft with 37 Business Class, 24 Premium Economy, and 212 Economy Class seats.
Anthony’s Take: American is moving quickly to undue years of neglect and cuts. It’s great to see the investment in lounges, on board product, and more as it works to better compete with Delta and United.
