American Airlines shared news today that it is adding nine new routes from its hub at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). It’s great to see American giving some love to its Windy City hub.
New European Destinations
Back in November, I wrote about American Airlines offering new flights to Naples-Capodichino International Airport (NAP). These will be operated with Boeing 787-8 aircraft with 20 Business Class, 28 Premium Economy, 48 Main Cabin Extra, and 138 Main Cabin seats. This starts on June 6th and runs daily through October 24th.
American will also begin flying nonstop to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD). This year-round flight will begin on March 30th and also be flown daily with a Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
American will operate 10 daily flights to eight popular European destinations from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). This includes three daily flights to London Heathrow Airport (LHR). Together with its oneworld® partners, American’s passengers will have access to up to 41 daily flights to 17 countries this summer.
Seven Additional Nonstop Destinations
In addition to the flights to Europe, American is adding seven additional nonstop destinations from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) this summer. These include:
- Bismarck Municipal Airport (BIS) (1x daily; starts on June 5th)
- Boise Airport (BOI) (1x daily; starts on June 5th)
- Cape Cod Gateway Airport (HYA) (1x weekly; starts on June 21st)
- City of Colorado Springs Municipal Airport (COS) (1x daily; starts on June 5th)
- Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) (1x weekly; starts on June 21st)
- Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) (1x daily; starts on October 26th)
- Spokane International Airport (GEG) (1x daily; starts on June 5th)
Flights between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) have not been offered by American since September 2021. United Airlines currently flies the route. This will once again be the longest domestic route that American Airlines offers.
Ben Humphrey, American’s Vice President of ORD Operations, said:
O’Hare has always been a vital hub for American, connecting the Midwest to our global network and bringing travelers from across the world to Chicago for business and pleasure. Strengthening our network is a promise to our customers that we’ll continue to provide exceptional service to the places they want to go. And it reinforces to our partners and stakeholders that we’ll be an economic driver for the region well into the future — all powered by our Chicago team members who are the best at putting our customers first.”
American will operate up to 480 daily flights from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) this summer, offering 25% more seats and 22% more departures than last year.
Anthony’s Take: It has felt for some time that American was more focused on Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and other hubs in its network. It’s great to see it growing at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) this summer. The Naples flight is particularly intriguing to me as I love Italy.
