American Airlines flight AA292 had departed New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and was en route to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) yesterday when a bomb threat was made. The Boeing 787-9 is currently diverting to Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) as a result of the onboard emergency.
AA has updated it's flight status page for flight 292.
Looks like it will be departing tomorrow at 11am.
Furthermore, it looks like the crew will run out of hours by the time they land in Rome.https://t.co/KwyteURQxZ@AirNavRadar#AmericanAirlines #AA292 #NewYork #Delhi… pic.twitter.com/a969FV84ju

The flight turning and heading to Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) might seem odd, but it likely means that the threat was deemed a hoax or a low-security risk. Indian law requires that flight with bomb threats be diverted and that every passenger be searched before the flight is allowed to continue into India. This incident has caused another issue and that one is around crew timing. With this delay, the crew will time out when the aircraft lands.
The flight is now scheduled to depart Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) for Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) tomorrow morning.

American Airlines released the following statement:
American Airlines Flight AA292, operating from New York to Delhi, has been diverted to Rome due to a potential security threat onboard. We are working closely with local authorities and will provide updates as the situation develops.”
Anthony’s Take: Given the choice of where to divert and the time taken to get there, it’s being thought that this situation has a low risk of actually having a bomb on the aircraft. Hoping that is correct and that all passengers are safe.
