Earlier today, I wrote about United adding some exciting new routes and a second-daily flight between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL). Air Canada is also flying to Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) starting today from Vancouver International Airport (YVR). This route will be Air Canada’s 12th destination in the Asia-Pacific and the airline’s first destination in the Philippines.

Air Canada is the only Canadian carrier that will fly nonstop to the Philippines. It’s currently the largest market in Asia without direct Air Canada service. The new route starts today and will use a Boeing 787-9 with 30 Business Class, 21 Premium Economy, and 247 Economy Class seats. Vancouver is the closest major North American city to Asia.

Mark Galardo, Air Canada’s Executive Vice President, Revenue and Network Planning, & President of Cargo, said:

We are proud to be the only Canadian carrier flying to the Philippines, building on the longstanding ties between our countries to make visiting family and friends, conducting business, or heading on vacation more convenient than ever. With more than one million Filipinos living in Canada representing an important market, direct air services are a catalyst to facilitating tourism, trade and connectivity, and represent the fastest way of traveling to Manila. Whether you start or end your journey at our Vancouver Pacific hub, or one of our conveniently connected network destinations, we are thrilled to welcome you onboard our newest Asia-Pacific flight.”

This addition is one of many that is included in the more than 180 weekly flights between Canada and the Pacific it will fly. Air Canada operates the most nonstop flights of any airline in the market.

Eligible passengers will have access to the acclaimed Vancouver Air Canada Signature Suite, which offers a la carte dining and premium beverage options within a relaxed airport retreat. For inbound customers connecting internationally, Vancouver also has in-transit customs pre-clearance to simplify the transit through YVR. The new Manila route has  been designed to allow customers to conveniently connect to and from more than 50 destinations across North America.

Anthony’s Take: United Airlines first added service to Manila from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) last October and now will add a second daily flight. Air Canada will complement this with an additional option for Star Alliance flyers and anyone looking for an easy way to get to the Philippines.
