There have been a lot of announcements around airlines changing terminals at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) over the past few months. Air Canada is the latest airline to announce future plans and it’s looking to join some of its fellow Star Alliance members in the new Terminal 6 when it opens in 2026.

All Nippon Airways (ANA) announced in November that it will also be shifting from Terminal 7 into the new Terminal 6. Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines also made plans to move into the new terminal. Air Canada will join them in a digital-first, boutique guest experience that offers less than five-minute average walks from the TSA security checkpoint to all of the terminal’s gates,100,000 square feet of NYC-inspired shopping, dining, lounges, and amenities.

Air Canada Express-Jazz currently operates two daily flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and one daily flight from Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) using Embraer E175 aircraft. All flights are pre-cleared for US customs and immigration while in Canada for easy transit at JFK. Air Canada’s existing operations at New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) coupled with these flights offer a combined total of 36 daily flights between the New York market and Canada.

In addition to the Star Alliance carriers above, Cathay Pacific announced in June that it’s moving there and opening a new, 10,000-square-foot lounge. The airline currently operates three nonstop, daily flights to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Aer Lingus is also shifting operations from Terminal 7. The airline currently offers 2x daily nonstop flights to Dublin Airport (DUB) and daily flights to Shannon Airport (SNN) and Manchester Airport (MAN).

Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President of Revenue and Network Planning at Air Canada, said:

New York is extremely popular for business, leisure and family travel for Canadians, and we are pleased to serve all the city’s major airports. Moving our operation to T6 will improve the airport experience for our customers and facilitate connections with our partners. Through our connections at our TorontoMontreal and Vancouver hubs, travelers from New York can easily reach anywhere in Canada or onward on our international network.”

Anthony’s Take: All of the construction at JFK is welcome and will transform the airport into a space that people look forward to flying to/from. I expect many more announcements from airlines as these new spaces progress.
