An Air Canada passenger boarded a Boeing 777-300ER at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) headed for Dubai International Airport (DXB), but decided that instead of taking his assigned seat that he would open an emergency exit door. He succeeded and proceeded to tumble 20 feet onto the tarmac below.
Air Canada flight AC56 was scheduled to depart at 9:35 PM on January 9th, but did not end up taking off for over nine hours after the passenger opened the door. After his spill out of the plane, he was taken to a local hospital for medical attention. Because the aircraft was still at the gate, doors were not armed and emergency slides did not deploy. An investigation is underway into what caused him to open the door.
We’re only 11 days into the new year and passengers have been acting very badly. There have been multiple fights and other incidents and we’re only into the second week of 2024.
Anthony’s Take: It’s unknown as to what the motivation was here, but this man’s careless act found him injured and the 318 other passengers having to wait nine hours for their delayed flight.
