Air Canada announced today that it’s adding two new destinations, two new routes, and increased flight frequencies for summer 2024. With these new flights, Air Canada will be the first Canadian airline to serve the new Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO) in Tulum in addition to adding several other holiday spots.
Tulum, Mexico
Tulum is located on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula and known for its beaches and preserved Mayan ruins. The coastal area also offers mangroves and cenotes (natural limestone sinkholes) for visitors to explore. Air Canada is joining Delta Air Lines service from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) (more here), Spirit Airlines’ Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Orlando International Airport (MCO) flights (more here), American Airlines service from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), and Miami International Airport (MIA) (more here), and United’s flights from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) (more here) with its latest addition to its route network.
Canada’s largest airline and flag carrier will offer flights from both Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on Fridays and Sundays (starts on May 5th; year round) and Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) on Saturdays (starts on 11th; year round). Both of these routes will be operated by Airbus A321-200 aircraft, which feature 16 Business Class and 174 Economy Class seats.
Two New US Routes
In addition to Tulum, Air Canada is adding service to Charleston International Airport (CHS). This new destination will be served from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) daily on an Embraer 175 aircraft. It has 12 Business Class and 64 Economy Class seats. Service begins on March 28th.
Other new routes include flights from Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL). The Austin route will be operated 4x weekly year round (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday outbound; Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday return) starting on May 2nd with an Airbus A220-300 that offers 12 Business Class and 125 Economy Class seats. St. Louis will be a seasonal, summer route that operates with as Air Canada Express – Jazz daily beginning on May 1st on a Canadair RJ 900 with 12 Business Class and 64 Economy Class seats. These flights complement the offerings from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) that are already flying to both destinations as well as service from Vancouver International Airport (YVR).

Phoenix-Montréal probably isn’t 5x per day. Is it perhaps 5x per week?
You’re correct. I just updated to 5x weekly. Thank you!
I love expanded routes and there’s always a lot of fanfare that accompanies them but almost all of the time while new routes are being initiated those planes are being pulled from other markets, often with little to no public notice. Maybe airlines could at least make public statements to the press in the city getting reduced service so the public is a bit more aware.
