Aeromexico has added two new routes to the United States this winter. San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) and Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) will see flights to/from Mexico start in October and December, respectively.
Flights between San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) and Mexico City International Airport (MEX) will begin on October 26th. No other airline offers nonstop service on this route.
Additionally, Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) will see Aeromexico step in and challenge American’s seasonal, nonstop flights to Cancún International Airport (CUN). American offers the flight only 1x weekly on Saturdays between November 8th and April 11th. Aeromexico will give flyers the choice of flights running 7x weekly (this switches to 5x weekly in January). This will be flown with a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft that offers 16 Clase Premier (Business Class), 18 Economy Plus, and 132 Main Cabin seats.
Anthony’s Take: Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) has gotten lots of love over the past few years with Delta and American paying it particular attention (Delta considers it a focus city). Air Canada, Air France, BermudAir, Copa Airlines, Icelandair, and Lufthansa all have nonstop flights there.

Raleigh is a bit of an odd duck. It was big enough to be American’s east coast connection hub until they ditched it for Charlotte after the merger but now seems kind of forgotten. Nonetheless it has flights to Europe and now daily service to Cancun. If Alaska ever needs an east coast hub they could do worse than RDU for connections.
