Southwest Airlines flight WN2504 was just about to land at Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) after arriving from Omaha’s Eppley Airfield (OMA). The aircraft was cleared to land on Runway 31C when pilots noticed that a Challenger 350 aircraft operated by FlexJet was in its path. The pilots quickly changed course and began climbing to avoid a collision.

Video posted across social media channels shows the aircraft pull up in time and avoid the other aircraft. What exactly happened is still being investigated, but the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released the following statement:
The crew of Southwest Airlines Flight 2504 initiated a go-around when a business jet entered the runway without authorization at Chicago Midway Airport. The FAA is investigating the incident, which occurred around 8:50 a.m. local time on Tuesday, Feb. 25.”
Paddle Your Own Kanoo reports that “preliminary reports suggest that the pilots of the business jet had not been given permission to cross Runway 31C and had, instead, been requested to hold short of the runway.”
Anthony’s Take: There were no injuries or further issues thanks to the great flying of the Southwest pilots. It’s scary to watch the video and think what could have been here.
