Edelweiss Air AG is the sister company of Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS). The carrier operates over 80 leisure routes out of Zurich Airport (ZRH). Its longhaul fleet consists of five Airbus A340-300 aircraft, but this will change when the airline accepts delivery of six Airbus A350-900s in 2025.
The first new aircraft is expected to be flying by summer 2025. The remaining five will be in service shortly after that and all six Airbus A340-300s will be retired by 2026. These aircraft were originally operated by LATAM Airlines (Delta Air Lines is also flying some of the other LATAM A350-900s. I just flew on one between Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)). The planes will initially have 339 seats (30 Business Class, 63 Economy Max, and 246 in Economy Class) in the configuration set for LATAM. These will be reconfigured into the Edelweiss design and seating at a later date.
Edelweiss Air CEO, Bernd Bauer, commented:
The modernisation of the long-haul fleet is a milestone in Edelweiss’ almost 30-year history. Edelweiss will thus operate one of the youngest long-haul fleets in Europe from 2026. he design of the Airbus A350-900 sets new standards in efficiency with state-of-the-art technologies and outstanding aerodynamics. It is one of the most environmentally friendly long-haul aircraft in the world.”
Anthony’s Take: Taking an Edelweiss flight from Tampa is on my list for the future. It will be great to see these new aircraft flying soon.
