I had a dinner in Washington DC and the Grand Hyatt Washington was in a good location and one of the more affordable hotels for the night. For some reason, comparable hotels were costing up to $1,000 on the night I visited. This hotel was considerably cheaper and offered some great amenities.

Anthony’s Take: The hotel is good for business and leisure. It’s downtown and near everything you’ll need or want. I liked the Grand Club (even though it only had snacks when I went and I did not get to try the evening apps or breakfast) and the room was spacious.

Grand Hyatt DC Booking

Booking

I booked a 2 Double Beds Atrium View room on “Member Rate” of $533 plus tax. The hotel is a Category 5 property and room redemptions range from 15,000 to 35,000 per night when redeeming World of Hyatt® points for a standard room.

Transportation to/from the Hotel

I took an Uber Comfort from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). The approximately 4.3-mile ride took 12 minutes and cost $38. I returned to the airport the next morning in the same way and at a similar cost.

Location

The hotel is conveniently located in the center of downtown and near the Capital One Arena, National Mall, Smithsonian Museums, White House, and Washington Monument. There are lots of stores and restaurants nearby.

Check-in

I arrived at the hotel around 4:00 PM and my room was ready. The agent checking me in was friendly and efficient. She explained that the Grand Club lounge would be open for breakfast, snacks, and in the evening.

Grand Hyatt DC Upgrade

She told me I was upgraded to a 1 King Bed Club Access room. (I had already seen this in the app). I was offered bottled water and a late checkout, which I did not need. I had my keys printed a few seconds later and I was on my way.

Grand Hyatt DC Destination Fee

Destination Fee

She did not mention the destination fee, but it was waived for me as a Globalist. If you have to pay the fee, it’s $30 plus taxes per night. It includes:

  • $15 daily food and beverage credit (excluding alcohol, tax, service charge and gratuity) for Cure Bar & Bistro
  • Premium high-speed Wi-Fi
  • Two bottles of water daily
  • Preloaded Metro card ($3 credit; once per stay). Access to Metro Center Station via lobby
  • Discounted luxury town car transportation to Union Station, DCA, IAD, BWI. (See Concierge for details)

The bathroom was next to the closet. It offered a vanity with single sink, toilet, and glassed-in shower.

The vanity had plenty of counter space.

Public Areas & Amenities

The hotel has a fitness center, a restaurant (closed while I visited), the Grand Club lounge, several stores, a FedEx Office, lots of event space, a vintage mailbox, and a Starbucks. The event space is several floors below the lobby.

Grand Hyatt DC 43

The fitness center is also on a lower floor and a bit hard to find.

Grand Hyatt DC 44

The fitness center was average in size with a good amount of equipment.

Grand Hyatt DC 45

I liked that there were Peloton Bikes.

Grand Hyatt DC 46

Water, granola bars, and towels were available.

Overall Impression:

The Grand Hyatt Washington is a solid choice in Washington DC. It caters more towards business travelers, but it will work for anyone visiting the nation’s capital.
