EVA Air will begin nonstop service between Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in July 2026. This will be the first nonstop route to the US capital operated by a Taiwanese passenger airline. The move expands EVA Air’s presence in North America and addresses a long-standing gap in nonstop connectivity.
EVA Air plans to operate the route 4x weekly between Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). The flights will be served by a Boeing 787-9 aircraft with 26 in Royal Laurel Class (Business Class), 28 Premium Economy, and 224 Economy Class seats. EVA Air noted that scheduling details are still being finalized, but flights are expected to follow a pattern similar to the airline’s New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) service with an evening departure from Taipei and an overnight return.
The addition will bring the carrier’s North American network to 10 destinations and 98 weekly flights. At 7,864 miles, the flight will rank among EVA Air’s longest (just shy of its Houston flights to George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), but expected to face longer flying times due to routing constraints from Russian airspace closures. Other EVA Air flights in North America include:
- Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
- Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
- New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
- Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)
- Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)
- Vancouver International Airport (YVR)
I’m a fan of EVA Air and just flew on one of its Hello Kitty Jets last week. One of these flies nonstop to/from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and I hope to have a longer Hello Kitty experience in the future.
Anthony’s Take: This route makes sense for EVA Air given its Star Alliance membership and this being a United hub. Further, if EVA Air starts service it beats out its Taiwanese competitors: China Airlines and STARLUX Airlines (both are rapidly trying to grow in the US).
