Spirit Airlines is the only commercial airline currently serving Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) as I’m not counting the bus service to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). It currently flies to seven destinations from the NJ airport. Allegiant Air is about to take them head on with four new flights to Florida airports this winter.
Allegiant Air will add the following flights to/from Atlantic City International Airport (ACY):
- Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) (2x weekly; starts on December 11th)
- Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) (2x weekly; starts on December 19th)
- Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) (2x weekly; starts on February 13th)
- St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) (2x weekly; starts on February 13th)
Spirit has its largest hub at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and also flies to airports near Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) and St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE). The seven destinations it connects to Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) include:
- Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
- Fort Myers’ Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR)
- Orlando International Airport (MCO)
- Palm Beach International Airport (PBI)
- Tampa International Airport (TPA)
Drew Wells, Allegiant’s Chief Commercial Officer, said:
We’re thrilled to bring our brand of low-cost, high-value travel to one of New Jersey’s most iconic destinations. Connecting this vibrant community with several cities across Florida not only strengthens our leisure network, but opens up more affordable and convenient travel options for our customers in both regions. It’s a win for travelers seeking sun and sand, and for those who want to experience the coastal charm of the Eastern Seaboard or stroll along Atlantic City’s famed Boardwalk.”
Anthony’s Take: I lived in New Jersey for years and have been to Atlantic City many times. The city is like a mini Las Vegas with a beach, but it is not what it once was and has seen retail, restaurants, and entertainment leave. With concerns about Spirit’s business going forward, it’s good to see another airline enter the airport.
