Delta Air Lines flight DL1213 was forced to evacuate at Orlando International Airport (MCO) after the engine caught fire after pushing back from the gate. Videos show the Airbus A330-300 aflame on the tarmac.
The flight was scheduled to depart at 11:00 AM today, but this has now been delayed until 5:00 PM while a replacement aircraft is dispatched.
The aircraft was met by fire and rescue personnel. Thankfully, the passengers were able to deplane using emergency slides and there are no reported injuries among the 282 and 12 crew on the aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident. Delta released the following statement:
Delta flight crews followed procedures to evacuate the passenger cabin when flames in the tailpipe of one of the aircraft’s two engines were observed. We appreciate our customers’ cooperation and apologize for the experience. Nothing is more important than safety and Delta teams will work to get our customers to their final destinations as soon as possible.”
Anthony’s Take: It’s unclear what caused the engine fire, but this will be determined during the investigation. I’m glad to see that everyone got out safely.
