Last month, I wrote about Oman Air becoming a oneworld® alliance member in 2025. Timing was vague with only next year being known. The carrier first announced that it was joining the oneworld® alliance back in June 2022. Oman Air, based in Muscat, was sponsored by Qatar Airways. Today, an update was provided courtesy of Executive Traveler and we now know that Oman Air will join on June 30, 2025.

The process for Oman Air to join the oneworld® alliance has been a long one. It was first announced at the June 2022 IATA annual general meeting in Doha. Last month at the IATA annual general meeting in Dubai, the CEO of oneworld® said that Oman Air was on track to officially join this year and then the date slipped.
The oneworld® alliance officially began on February 1, 1999 with American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas as its founding members. It was formed to create a seamless passenger experience and to reward frequent flyers with additional benefits (including some of the most generous lounge access of any of the three alliances).
oneworld® currently includes the following airlines:
- Alaska Airlines
- American Airlines
- British Airways
- Cathay Pacific
- Finnair
- Iberia
- Japan Airlines
- Malaysia Airlines
- Qantas
- Qatar Airways
- Royal Air Maroc
- Royal Jordanian
- SriLankan Airlines
There are also 26 affiliate airlines and Fiji Airways as a oneworld® connect partner. Oman Air will become the 14th alliance member when it joins later this year and in a separate news item, Fiji Airways will become the 15th full member within the next 12 months. Hawaiian Airlines is also slated to join oneworld® now that it has been acquired by Alaska Airlines.
Oman Air operates a fleet of around 50 Boeing 737, Boeing 787, and Airbus A330 aircraft. Its premium cabins and lounges are widely lauded and it will make a nice addition to oneworld®. Qatar Airways and Oman Air already work pretty closely and this addition into the alliance will only strengthen that.
Anthony’s Take: Hopefully, this schedule will stick and Oman Air will join three years after it was first announced. I’m a fan of airline alliances, but not sure I’ll ever fly this carrier as my travels do not take me to the Middle East.
