Flair Airlines is a Canadian low-cost carrier based in Edmonton, Alberta. It operates a fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft with a route network that serves Canada and several US destinations, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The airline announced today that it will begin paying passengers if flights are delayed longer than 60 minutes or cancelled.
With this guarantee, Flair will be the only Canadian airline to promise punctuality or pay up. I don’t know of any US carriers that offer an On-Time Guarantee (OTG), so the guarantee might be unique to all North American airlines.
Maciej Wilk, Interim CEO of Flair Airlines, said:
Our commitment to passengers has never been stronger. With the OTG, we’re raising the bar in Canadian aviation. The guarantee is simple: if we don’t get you there on time, we’ll compensate you. No other airline in Canada offers this level of accountability. We’re confident in our operations, and we’re putting it all on the line for our passengers.”
Passengers booking through flyflair.com will receive a $60 travel voucher if their flight is delayed more than 60 minutes or cancelled within 72 hours of departure. Earlier this month, Flair Airlines announced that it achieved a 99.6% completion rate in October, which positioned it as Canada’s most reliable airline.
Anthony’s Take: This sounds good in theory. We’ll see how it works for passengers. Flair had a great month in October and if it keeps that up it won’t be paying out too much.

It’s an interesting idea, especially given that it’s a voucher for future travel so it’s both a proactive apology plus $60 is more of a discount coupon than anything resembling a free flight for the vast majority of people using it.
