American Express was the first credit card issuer to open a US lounge back in 2013. The concept was novel at the time, but both Capital One and Chase have opened their own lounges in the years since. The lounges offer complimentary food and drinks, Wi-Fi, and restrooms. Some offer coffee bars, spas, and other amenities to further elevate the experience. Now, The Points Guy is reporting that the three locations that once held Exhale Spas will be removing this amenity to make room for additional seating.

The spas offered several complimentary treatments, but it was next to impossible to get appointments as supply was way less than the demand presented in the often-crowded lounges. Seating is at a premium across the lounge network and while this change will not add a ton of space for working and relaxing, it has to help a little.

The spas at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and Miami International Airport (MIA) reportedly closed last Thursday (October 3rd). The funds used to support this amenity will be poured into additional servers and to increase the quality of the food offered.

Anthony’s Take: I have not been impressed with The Centurion Lounges by American Express in quite some time. There are often waits to get in, seating is limited, and the food is picked over. This little change isn’t going to make all of that stop, but it will hopefully give a few folks a new place to sit without being frustrated that they can’t get a spa treatment.

Hopefully they’ll finally be able to afford to serve white meat chicken instead of the endless nasty thigh meat dishes
