Spirit Airlines Cuts 14 Routes In Latest Route Shake Up

Spirit Airlines trimmed 14 routes from its route network. Some of these routes had been suspended, but they’re now cancelled altogether. No word has been given as to why these routes are getting the axe, but it’s speculated that they might be cut due to the current aircraft shortage.

The routes touch a bunch of different airports with the biggest cuts hitting Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) and Orlando International Airport (MCO). Here is the full list of cuts:

  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to/from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) (already done)
  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to/from John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) (already done)
  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to/from Kansas City International Airport (MCI) (already done)
  • Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to/from Kansas City International Airport (MCI) (ends on October 6th)
  • Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to/from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) (already done)
  • Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) to/from Charleston International Airport (CHS) (ends on November 5th)
  • Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) to/from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) (ends on November 4th)
  • Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) to/from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) (already done)
  • Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) to/from St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) (ends on October 6th)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) (ends on November 5th)
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO) to/from Bradley International Airport (BDL) (ends on November 4th)
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO) to/from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) (ends on November 4th)

Anthony’s Take: The delays caused by Airbus are likely what is driving these cuts especially since some of them are leisure routes during the holidays. Route networks update all the time and some of these will return someday.
