Hyatt has acquired Alila, Thompson Hotels, the all-inclusive portfolio of Apple Leisure Group, as well as hotel booking platform Mr & Mrs Smith (more here). Hyatt continues to look to grow its portfolio both through opening new properties as well as through acquisitions. It looks like The Standard Hotels could be its next target.
Bloomberg is reporting that The Standard Hotels, which operates properties in cities like New York, London, Ibiza, the Maldives, and Melbourne are close to receiving an offer from Hyatt. It would further build out Hyatt’s leisure-focused portfolio. The Standard’s brand was developed by Andre Balazs. It’s known for the nightlife at its hotels and Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, and Benicio del Toro were early investors.
This deal has not been confirmed on either side and comments from both brands were muted.
Anthony’s Take: This seems like a good fit for Hyatt’s portfolio. We’ll have to see if an offer is made and if it then closes. I’d love to earn World of Hyatt points while staying near the Highline.
