WestJet is deepening its footprint in Mexico with the announcement of a brand-new seasonal route between Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM), a surf haven on the coast of Oaxaca. Beginning December 12th, WestJet will operate 1x weekly flights throughout the winter season. This will provide Canadians with direct access to an up-and-coming Mexican beach destination.

With Puerto Escondido added to its map, WestJet will now offer 15 nonstop routes between Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Mexico this winter. Overall, WestJet will increase seat capacity to sun destinations by 8% compared to last winter. The Puerto Escondido route builds on WestJet’s rapid network expansion south of the border. Earlier this year, the airline launched flights to Cozumel International Airport (CZM), Guadalajara International Airport (GDL), and Tepic International Airport (TPQ), while also extending Mexico City International Airport (MEX) service to year-round.

Passengers traveling to Mexico this winter will have access to more flexibility and value than ever before, whether booking standalone flights through WestJet or all-inclusive vacation packages with Sunwing Vacations or WestJet Vacations.

John Weatherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, said:

Delivering this hidden gem to WestJet’s network is another way we’re fulfilling our promise to give Canadians more unforgettable and affordable getaways. For those looking to trade snow for sunshine, Puerto Escondido offers the perfect escape; a vibrant blend of beautiful beaches, authentic Mexican flavors, world-class surfing and the warm, festive spirit that makes Mexico so special.”

Anthony’s Take: WestJet is taking a lead in driving Canadians to Mexico this coming winter. As US travel demand continues to be soft, the airline will make it easier than ever to get to some beautiful beaches.
