Canadian carrier, WestJet, is adding flights between Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport starting on June 27th. This is a new addition for WestJet’s route network.

The new flights will be offered up to 4x weekly on Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with 12 Premium and 162 Economy Class seats. The seasonal service ends on September 29th. In 2025, WestJet will fly to more transatlantic destinations from Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) than ever before. Cities served include Dublin Airport (DUB), Edinburgh Airport (EDI), London Heathrow Airport (LHR), and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG). Last month, it also announced new flights to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) (starting on May 29th).

John Weatherill, WestJet’s Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, said:

This route is poised to become a favourite among those eager to explore Spain and beyond. Service between Halifax and Barcelona complements our expansive and most significant transatlantic schedule from Atlantic Canada. As demand for travel to Europe remains strong, this addition furthers WestJet’s presence in the market, offering more choice and flexibility for Canadians living on the East Coast.”

WestJet Virgin

WestJet announced last month that it has expanded its codeshare agreement with Virgin Atlantic. The airline also has a  longstanding codeshare agreement with KLM. With this new flight, passengers will have one-stop access to tons of cities across Europe on KLM operated flights. The convenience of a single check-in experience, through checked baggage, and the ability to earn with WestJet Rewards should be appealing to travelers.

Anthony’s Take: Tickets are fairly inexpensive on this new transatlantic route. WestJet offers a good experience and I could see these flights as an appealing option for both flyers from Halifax as well as those who can easily position there.
