I lived in Hoboken for many years (and still own a condo there). When returning to NJ to visit family, we have stayed countless times at the W Hoboken (review here). I have always loved the property and have been following the renovation throughout. Today, Marriott announced that the refurbishment is complete. The hotel’s transformation celebrates the city of Hoboken and blends industrial heritage with modern sophistication.

Located on the waterfront at 225 River Street, the reinvented W Hoboken reflects the next evolution of the W brand’s identity. Following the relaunch of the flagship W New York – Union Square, the property continues the design evolution as the brand sheds its club kid image for a more modern and sophisticated look.

At the heart of the hotel is the Living Room, W’s signature social hub reimagined as a vibrant, day-to-night gathering space. By day, it offers a welcoming environment for guests and locals to relax with artisanal coffee and light bites. At night, it transforms into a lively lounge featuring music and cocktails. The design draws deeply from Hoboken’s industrial and waterfront heritage. A sculptural wall of metal mesh tubes evokes the area’s historic train lines, while the bar’s bold red arch reflects the city’s curved architecture. The space is brought to life through layered textures and a colorful carpet inspired by the movement of the Hudson River.

W Hoboken Bar

The Living Room Bar introduces a sophisticated dining and cocktail experience that captures W’s global flair with local inspiration. The dinner menu features a modern take on refined hors d’oeuvres (such as mini lobster rolls, truffle arancini, and everything cream puffs with pimento cheese) alongside an indulgent caviar service with housemade blinis, tater tots, and mini baked potatoes topped with caviar.

Complementing the menu is an inventive cocktail program that blends artistry and global influence. Signature drinks showcase ingredients like matcha, yuzu, Aperol, and coffee liqueur, reflecting both craftsmanship and creativity. With its design and menu, the Living Room Bar joins Halifax and Sushi by Bou as standout culinary destinations within W Hoboken.

W Hoboken Suite

The 223 guest rooms and suites also embody W’s evolved design philosophy. Each room features a nook illuminated by amber-glass pendant lighting inspired by the warm glow of a lighthouse, while the bathroom mirrors draw from the tunnel linking New Jersey and New York, symbolizing movement and connection.

Textures, metals, and lighting elements throughout the rooms create a narrative of Hoboken’s industrial past and modern vitality. The 20 Superior Suites elevate the experience with dedicated living areas, powder rooms, and private balconies offering panoramic views of Manhattan. A green glass pendant above the dining table nods to Hoboken’s maritime heritage, while curated artwork is inspired by waterfront sunsets.

For the ultimate experience, the Penthouse I and II Suites provide spacious layouts featuring one or two bedrooms, kitchenettes, and expansive living areas. Every suite is crafted as a sophisticated social retreat, blending comfort, art, and design with an unmatched sense of place.

W Hoboken’s FIT gym delivers a modern approach to wellness with advanced cardio and strength equipment, ensuring guests can maintain their fitness routines on the road. The hotel’s flexible meeting and event spaces incorporate contemporary design and state-of-the-art technology, making them ideal for corporate functions, intimate gatherings, weddings, and celebrations with a skyline backdrop.

George Fleck, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader at W Hotels, said:

W Hoboken embodies the modern evolution of W Hotels, where bold design, vibrant energy, and an our iconic Whatever/Whenever service culture come together to create an unmistakably dynamic guest experience. Set at the footsteps of New York City, the brand’s birthplace, W Hoboken captures both the pulse of the city and the relaxed rhythm of the waterfront. With striking skyline views and a sophisticated maritime aesthetic, it stands as a true cultural catalyst in this vibrant destination. This transformation represents a bold step forward in our continued commitment to redefining luxury lifestyle hospitality.”

Anthony’s Take: I can’t wait to check out the W Hoboken after its renovation. I’m thrilled to see the investment and the photos look amazing.
