Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club is offering elite members from 11 other airline loyalty programs the opportunity to match their status and also potentially win one million points (there are five of these prizes up for grabs, but only if you have an address in the UK).
Airline Eligibility
Flying Club will match grant a match if you hold status with any of the following airlines:
- British Airways
- Air Canada
- Air India
- American Airlines
- British Airways
- Cathay Pacific
- Emirates
- Hawaiian
- Iberia
- Lufthansa
- South African Airways
- United Airlines
How to Match
Matching your status is quite simple, but it does take a purchase in order to do so. Here are the steps:
- Enroll in Flying Club if you are not already a member
- Book a qualifying flight
- Click here to complete the match form
Qualifying flights require a Premium or Upper Class booking (paid for in points or cash) on a Virgin Atlantic flight or one of its codeshare partners with a VS flight number for Gold status or any flight in any cabin on a Virgin Atlantic flight or one of its codeshare partners with a VS flight number paid for in points or cash. Customers must not have held Flying Club status in the last five years using a status match. A table with the required status levels by program can be found here. Matched status is valid for 12 months.
Win One Million Points
UK residents who status match to Flying Club Silver or Gold can win one million Virgin Points. It’s less appealing knowing this is only open to UK residents, but I get why Virgin would implement this restriction. Winners will be chosen at random and five members will each receive one million Virgin Points.
Anthony’s Take: If you want status on Virgin Atlantic and do not currently hold it with another SkyTeam airline this match could make sense for you. If you do it, just make sure that you use it as it’s only available once every five years max.

Lottery wins in the UK are tax free for residents in the UK (unless perhaps they happen to be US persons or the few others subject to global taxation even while only resident in the UK).
