This morning, I wrote about two bodies that were found in the landing gear of a JetBlue Airbus A320 that had arrived at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) operating as flight B6 1801. Now, there is an update.

The aircraft had overnighted at Jamaica’s Kingston-Ulster Airport (KIN) before heading on to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The Jamaica Observer is reporting that the two men found inside the wheel well are likely Jamaican nationals.

Maintenance workers made the discovery while inspecting the aircraft. Neither body has been identified and it’s unknown how they gained access to the wheel well. Pilots walk around every aircraft before takeoff, but it’s possible these two were missed.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are both involved in the investigation and investigating security failures that have occurred here. Some reports say that the bodies were severely decomposed, which indicates that they might have been there for more multiple flights.

This is the second time in recent weeks that a body was found in a plane’s landing gear. Last month, I wrote about a dead body that was found in the wheel well of a United Airlines Boeing 787-10 after it landed at Maui’s Kahului Airport (OGG). Flight UA202 had just arrived from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) when the troubling discovery was made.

Anthony’s Take: It will be interesting to see what additional details emerge here as this situation continues to be investigated. It’s sad to see folks lose their lives like this and makes you wonder what they were running from.
