Earlier this week, I wrote about a person (at the time now identified as an employee or private individual) having been pulled into the engine of a KLM Cityhopper Embraer E190 on the apron at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS). Emergency crews responded to the tragic incident and the man (an airport employee) had died. Now, this death has been ruled a suicide.

KLM flight KL1341 from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) to Billund Airport (BLL) was boarded with passengers and crew on the aircraft when this happened. Per The NL Times, the Marechaussee (the branch of the military responsible for policing the airport) released this statement:

All passengers and employees of the flight in question have disembarked and are being taken care of.”

The Dutch Royal Military Police released a second statement. It reads:

“[the victim] intentionally climbed into the engine, indicating this is a case of suicide. Out of respect for the victim and their loved ones, no further statements will be made.”

Anthony’s Take: This is a sad story and a heck of a way to go. My condolences to the family and friends of this man.
