Yesterday, I wrote about Jeju Air flight 7C 2216. It crashed upon landing at Muan International Airport (MWN) after flying from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK). The Boeing 737-800 had 181 passengers and crew on board. The fiery crash did not look like it was going to end well for many on board and unfortunately 179 have been confirmed dead with only two survivors.
UPDATE: Rescue operation ends with 179 people confirmed dead in South Korea plane crash. Only 2 people survived https://t.co/9DTMqyGoC0

The BBC is now reporting that a bird strike is now looking like it was the cause of the fatal crash yesterday. A South Korean official has said that the plane was trying to land, but was forced to hold after air traffic control warned of a potential bird strike. A few minutes later, the pilot called in a Mayday and air traffic command gave permission for the plane to land. It landed without using its wheels or other landing gear before crashing into a wall.

Anthony’s Take: Regardless of the cause of the incident, this is tragic and the worst aviation accident in 2024. My condolences to everyone touched by this horrific incident.
