United flight UA2477 from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) diverted to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) after a passenger had an issue that caused a “biohazard” that left both passengers and crew vomiting.
United Airlines crew and passengers vomiting due to a “biohazard” from a passenger and flight diverted to Dulles as UA2477 (Boeing 737-800 IAH-BOS) this afternoon.

Live and Let’s Fly reports that a burst colostomy bag caused others to become ill. Passengers asked for masks, but the smell became unbearable. United did not share many details, but released the following statement:
United flight UA2477 (Houston – Boston), diverted to Washington-Dulles after a customer experienced a medical issue. The aircraft is currently undergoing a deep clean and we are working to get customers on their way to Boston soon.”
A Delta Airlines Airbus A350 turned around back to Atlanta Friday night because of diarrhea throughout the airplane from a passenger and it’s a biohazard. 👀🥴

Last September, I wrote about Delta Air Lines flight DL194 from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN). It was forced to return to Atlanta after only flying for less than two hours due to a biohazard in the cabin. What exactly was the concern? Apparently, a passenger had “diarrhea all over the aircraft.”
🤒 More than two dozen passengers aboard a @united flight to @iah on Friday became sick. @HoustonFire says the passengers just got done with an international cruise. @KPRC2 is also learning that the @CDCgov is also involved in the investigation. pic.twitter.com/y9Bdmx2Nbr

In June, United Airlines flight UA1528 from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) was one of the last that a Boeing 737 MAX-8 aircraft would fly before it underwent a deep cleaning. A group of 68 people came from a cruise in Vancouver and 1/3 of them fell ill with nausea and vomiting, which made for a rather unpleasant flight.
Anthony’s Take: This sounds like a disgusting situation. The passenger with the issue was likely embarrassed and the others around them nauseated. The captain made the right call to divert here.
