United Airlines will significantly grow its hub at Denver International Airport (DEN) by adding 35 flights, including six new routes, 12 new gates, and three United Clubs℠ including the largest one in the carrier’s network.
United will celebrate the expansion later today. CEO Scott Kirby and Chief Customer Officer Linda Jojo will give a tour of United’s soon-to-open lounges and a brand-new Boeing 737 MAX 9, which is one of the planes that will fly some of the new Denver routes. United will add new nonstop flights to six destinations (including four not served by any other airline at Denver). These include:
- Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) in Asheville, NC
- Dayton International Airport (DAY) in Dayton, OH
- Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO) in Greensboro, NC
- Blue Grass Airport (LEX) in Lexington, KY
- Sangster International Airport (SBJ) in Montego Bay, Jamaica
- Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico
All of this expansion is part of the United’s nearly $1 billion investment to improve the customer experience in Denver. It includes an increase in gate capacity by 30%, a new check-in lobby, user-friendly technology at gates, a grab-n-go club concept called United Club Fly℠ (read my review here), and the renovation and expansion of its United Club℠ locations. United will also open a new lounge on the A Concourse and reopen its first of two remodeled United Clubs℠ on the B Concourse. The B concourse United Clubs℠ will be the largest in the network at over 36,500 square feet.
Anthony’s Take: It’s great to see United expanding at Denver International Airport. I think the United Club Fly℠ is a cool concept and I look forward to checking out the new lounges.

Why does Denver not have a Polaris Lounge? Seems odd that an expansion announcement is given but still no mention of a Polaris location there. Do they just not need to compete in business lounges at DEN?
