Ice cream sundaes are a fun way to cap off a meal when flying in Business or First Class. The novelty wears off a bit after you’ve had them dozens of times in flight (it’s been years since I have actually consumed one), but it’s still something that gets passengers excited. United has offered a sundae cart with vanilla ice cream and an assortment of toppings since Polaris® launched (with the exception of the time during the pandemic). Ice cream quality has varied greatly with some earning rave reviews and others being cheap and mealy. That’s about to change as United is going to exclusively offer ice cream from Tillamook in both Vanilla Bean and Oregon Strawberry starting today.
Live and Let’s Fly first shared the internal memo that states:
In addition to the Tillamook vanilla bean ice cream, we’ll serve the Tillamook strawberry ice cream. We’ve also included toppings to make a strawberry shortcake sundae for customers in Polaris and premium transcontinental premium cabins.”
The strawberry shortcake sundae referenced above will include:
- One scoop of Tillamook Oregon Strawberry ice cream
- Shortcake
- Strawberry compote
- Biscoff crumbles
- Whipped cream
I have to admit that this sounds like a huge improvement over what’s been served and I would like to try this sundae. On domestic flights, United is also swapping out the Salted Caramel Cheesecake (which is one of the best desserts in years) with a Lemon Berry Cheesecake (this also sounds summery and tasty).
Anthony’s Take: United gets props for standardizing the ice cream served across airports and adding strawberry. I look forward to tasting this soon.
