United Airlines announced today that it’s giving football (soccer to us Americans) fans something to cheer about in its Polaris® and Premium Plus® cabins. Limited-edition Wrexham AFC amenity kits and pajamas are being brought on board to celebrate the football team’s recent promotion to League One and continued surge in global popularity (partially thanks to the Emmy® award-winning show “FX’s Welcome to Wrexham), which is streaming on Hulu.
Starting June 1st, passengers flying in United’s premium cabins (on long-haul international routes) will receive the Wrexham AFC-inspired amenity kits filled with an eye mask, toothbrush and toothpaste, and Therabody hand cream, lip balm, and cleansing towelette. United Polaris® customers on flights over 14 hours will also receive pajamas designed after the team’s uniforms including a long-sleeve Wrexham red shirt and gray pants.
Peter Wolkowski, Director of Onboard Product Design at United, said:
With our amenity kits, we always aim to provide customers with products that make their travel journey more comfortable as well as create one-of-a-kind keepsakes for them to enjoy well beyond their flight. Wrexham’s story is one that has been documented and celebrated these last few years, so we’re thrilled to now give United customers team-branded gear they won’t be able to find anywhere else.”
This is far from the first special amenity kit that United has offered to premium customers and I quite enjoyed the city tins, Star Wars kits, and Spider Man mesh bags that were past tie-ins. It’s always fun to get something different than the usual blue case.
United is giving fans more access to Wrexham AFC during the club’s 2024-2025 season. This is the airline’s second year partnering with the team. It’s the front-of-jersey sponsor for both the men’s and women’s teams. United will also sponsor the club’s North American summer tour, which includes flying the teams to games. MileagePlus members can expect exclusive offerings (I’m guessing a MileagePlus Exclusives auction where members can bid miles for experiences is coming soon).
Anthony’s Take: I’m not a sports fan, but this is a cool promo and the design is fun. I give United credit for these promos and find that they do them more often than American or Delta.
