United Airlines is pulling the plug on two more international cities with the latest update to its 2026 schedule. Dakar’s Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) and Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) will both drop from the map next year. These updates come just days after United reduced the frequencies on several other European cities.
United has been serving Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) off and on for years from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). I remember flying to Stockholm on Continental Airlines (using one of the same Boeing 757-200s that was still flying this route). United just brought it back, but it appears to have not done well and is getting the axe again. This was relaunched in 2023 after being paused in 2019. This one surprises me a bit given SAS’ departure from Star Alliance. but I guess United figures that the Lufthansa Group can provide enough connections in Europe. Delta also offers seasonal flights between New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN).
The second route being yanked is between Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Dakar’s Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS). United just added this one last year and it was supposed to run year-round. No word as to why it is being cancelled. Delta Air Lines will continue to fly there from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
Anthony’s Take: United has the most comprehensive and interesting route map of any US carrier. It giveth and it taketh away when it comes to routes. I’ll be curious to see if any more are added for next year.
