A recent flight saw a United Airlines captain trying to decide if he should divert a plane packed with schoolchildren over their rowdy behavior. Apparently, there were groups from three schools on the aircraft and their behavior was so raucous that flight attendants felt disrespected as they acted rambunctious and climbed over the seats.
United Airlines Captain calling his company via ARINC talking about diverting the flight because of rowdy kids and mentions that they’re not a school bus. 🤦🏻♂️😅

The captain can be heard saying that they’re not on a school bus. Here’s the rest of the transcript:
We have three schools that were traveling together. They’re all in the back of the airplane. They’re climbing over the seats, they’re not being respectful of the airplane.
My FO and I were talking about it. We get it, that they’re kids they want to have fun and they’re with their friends. Unfortunately this isn’t a school bus and they’ve been very disrespectful to the flight attendants in the back. And we’re trying to figure out, if they don’t calm down, our next course of action to divert to one of the bases and kick them off or [inaudible] pretty beside myself with the actions that have been discussed to me over the intercom.
I agree with that, my FO agrees with that too. I’m waiting for another call back to see if they’ve actually calmed down to see if we need to make that statement. I’ve made a PA over, and kind of made a gesture of ‘hey you guys gotta be respectful..to respect the airplane’ they’ve kinda calmed down but I’m not too sure what’s going on. We just got a call from the flight attendants about a light, so we’re going to see what that’s going on about and we’ll get back to you.”
It’s hard to say how badly behaved these children were on the flight, but it must have been something for the captain to consider a diversion. I’ve said it before but children should not be allowed to run amok in flight or in airport lounges. In my opinion, children do not belong in lounges or premium cabins. When they are traveling, it is up to parents to keep them under control. This flight was not diverted and somehow order was restored.
Anthony’s Take: I think back to traveling with my parents. I would never have dreamed of misbehaving because I knew what was expected of me and knew there would be consequences. I get that this was a school trip, but the chaperones needed to have a better handle on the situation.

so what happened?
I respectfully disagree with your opinion – blanket statement- that children do not belong in lounges or premium cabins. That applies to anyone who is behaving – and whether its economy or business/first. My children have travelled all over the world in premium cabins, and used lounges. They have not misbehaved once. I have seen plenty of adults misbehave in both these settings. It is the parents responsibility to make sure that their children are well mannered in these settings; and unfortunately too many parents are either oblivious or simply do not care when their children are treating the plane cabin like play ground.
Cancel their return reservations. They can take a greyhound bus or Amtrak
