United Airlines is giving its loyalty members a new way to earn miles without ever stepping foot on a plane. The Chicago-based carrier has announced a new partnership with Lyft. It allows United MileagePlus® members to earn up to 4x miles on Lyft rides (including trips to and from the airport).

Lyft United Earnings

MileagePlus® members can now link their accounts directly in the Lyft app to start earning miles automatically every time they ride. The number of miles earned depends on the type of trip:

  • 4x miles per $1 on pre-scheduled airport rides
  • 3x miles per $1 on Extra Comfort, Lyft Black, and Black SUV rides, as well as non-scheduled airport trips
  • 2x miles per $1 on Standard, Priority Pickup, and XL rides booked under a business profile
  • 1x miles per $1 on Standard, Priority Pickup, and XL rides for personal travel.

New Lyft users will also receive a 1,000-mile welcome bonus after signing up, linking their MileagePlus® account, and completing two Lyft rides within 30 days.

United Lyft

The partnership deepens United’s push to expand its MileagePlus® ecosystem beyond air travel. Starting in early 2026, members will be able to redeem MileagePlus® miles for Lyft rides directly through the Lyft app. United and Lyft also plan to roll out integrated flight alerts and ride reminders, streamlining the experience for travelers heading to or from the airport.

Delta Lyft

Delta and Lyft had a partnership from 2018 through earlier this year. Uber now offers Delta flyers bonus SkyMiles® on rides and Uber Eats orders.

The collaboration builds on United’s strategy to enhance its loyalty program through everyday partnerships that complement travel. With Lyft’s presence in more than 600 US cities, MileagePlus® members can now earn rewards on everything from airport transfers to daily commutes. United MileagePlus® members can link accounts here.

Anthony’s Take: For frequent travelers, the partnership provides a seamless way to turn ground transportation into future flights and reinforces United’s focus on creating a complete, connected travel experience.

Does this stack? For instance I currently have Lyft through my business Chase Sapphire Reserve and linked to Bilt. Will this work in conjunction with those or displace one or both?

I’m going to guess no, but not sure.
