Turkish Airlines announced today that it will operate out of the upcoming Terminal One at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) when it opens in 2026. Along with its operations being housed there, the Star Alliance carrier plans to open an an 11,000-square-foot lounge.
The New Terminal One will begin handling passengers in 2026 (along with this lounge). It will include expansive departures and arrivals halls and the first 14 widebody aircraft gates. The entire 2.6 million-square-foot terminal will offer 23 gates in total. The New Terminal One is a huge part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of the airport, which will include two new terminals as well as the modernization and expansion of two existing terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a new roadway network.
When it’s completed in 2030, Terminal One will be the largest terminal at JFK. The terminal is being built on sites now occupied by the current Terminal One, the recently closed Terminal Two, and the former Terminal Three. Turkish Airlines currently operates 19 weekly flights between New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Istanbul Airport (IST). The planned lounge will be twice the size of the airport’s current offering and include premium amenities, expansive views of the airfield, and provide direct boarding access to aircraft. The lounge in Istanbul Airpiort (IST) is excellent (pictured above) and the airline will hopefully bring some of its charm to New York.
Fellow Star Alliance members LOT Polish Airlines, EVA Air, and Air China had already committed to relocating to the new terminal. Additionally, Air France, Air Serbia, KLM, Etihad, EVA Air, Korean Air (more here), LOT Polish Airlines, Korean Air, EVA Air, Air Serbia, Neos, and Philippine Airlines, and SAS (more here) will all be operated from Terminal One.
Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee Prof., Ahmet Bolat, said:
We are excited to bring Turkish Airlines’ world-class service to the New Terminal One at JFK, further enhancing our passengers’ travel experience with a state-of-the-art-lounge. This move underlines our commitment to continue our growth in the U.S market.”
Anthony’s Take: The renderings of Terminal One look incredible. The new terminal will house many international airlines and is the global gateway that New York City deserves.
