The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) found a passenger trying to smuggle a blade concealed within one of their flip flops at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). The incident occurred on March 31st and I give them props for finding it.
.@TSA officers at @Dulles_Airport intercepted a pair of flip-flops with a utility blade concealed inside. A good example of why TSA requires travelers to remove their footwear to be screened via X-ray. pic.twitter.com/2z8GrIaL86

This was found when the footwear was scanned by agents at the security checkpoint as those who are not members of TSA PreCheck are still required to remove their shoes before going through security. The passenger attempting to conceal this weapon was detained. No further word was provided as to why he was attempting to bring this through security and onto an aircraft.
Anthony’s Take: Other bloggers and many members of the public criticize the TSA. While I find a few to be on power trips, I think overall the agency has done a good job of protecting passengers (especially when I see stories like this one).

Perps who get caught should be shot on sight. I’m serious this just makes life more difficult for the millions who follow the rules.
