Back in December, I wrote about Marriott entering a long-term agreement to make Trailborn Hotels available under the Marriott umbrella as well as eligible for points earning, redemptions, and elite benefits in the Marriott Bonvoy® program.

Trailborn focuses on bringing bespoke hotels built for adventure to the great American outdoors. Trailborn’s current and pipeline portfolio consists of 559 rooms across five iconic outdoor destinations. Locations are near Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Canyon, and in Highlands, NC. Properties are planned for Wrightsville Beach, NC, and Mendocino, CA. Trailborn offers accommodations inspired by each property’s unique locale, experience-driven programming, curated food and beverage offerings, and insightful property teams to help guests chart their exploration.

  • Elite Welcome Gift: Marriott Gold Elite members will receive 500 points per stay. Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador Elite members will receive 1,000 Points per stay or a $10 food and beverage credit per night
  • Guaranteed Room Type: Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador Elite members will receive $100 in compensation if their booked room type is unavailable

Trailborn Grand Canyon

The following Trailborn Hotels are now part of Marriott Bonvoy®:

  • Trailborn Highlands
  • Trailborn Surf + Sound
  • Trailborn Grand Canyon
  • Trailborn Rocky Mountains
  • Trailborn Rocky Mountains – Outpost

The outdoor lodging segment is booming. Hilton launched a partnership last year with AutoCamp to offer guests the ability to stay in custom Airstreams and luxury tents. World of Hyatt® also announced that Under Canvas’ 13 outdoor resorts were bookable as part of its Mr and Mrs Smith partnership back in July. Marriott jumped on this trend with the acquisition of a national network of cabins known as Postcard Cabins and this partnership.

Anthony’s Take: I’m not an outdoorsy guy, but I know that there is tremendous interest in this segment. All of the major hotel chains have jumped in and made acquisitions, signed licensing deals, and integrated these properties into their portfolios. Marriott was behind Hilton and Hyatt, but seems to have charted a path here.
