A Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV has crashed into the Hudson River near lower Manhattan. Rescuers scrambled to reach the helicopter, but six bodies (including a pilot, a man, a woman, and three children) were recovered without any survivors. The cause of the crash is unknown as the story is developing.
The incident occurred around 3:00 PM in the Hudson River between Jersey City, NJ (my former home) and lower Manhattan. The passengers are believed to be tourists visiting from Spain.
Video shows the helicopter break apart before hitting the water.
More details will emerge as this is further investigated. The helicopter’s registered owner is Meridian Helicopters LLC and the company is based in Broussard, LA.
Anthony’s Take: This is so sad. My condolences to the family and friends of all six lives lost today.
