Spirit Airlines is kicking off the holiday season with a high-energy giveaway in the heart of New York City. Tomorrow, December 16th, the carrier will host its “One Day Power Hour 100-Ticket Giveaway Holiday Extravaganza” and turn Times Square into a massive, interactive sweepstakes event. Beginning at 6:00 PM ET, Spirit will take over more than 10,000 square feet of digital signage at 5 Times Square to give away 100 round-trip flights through a rapid-fire QR code challenge.
Over the course of one hour, the billboard will cycle through 100 unique QR codes. Each will be linked to an entry form for a chance to win a round-trip ticket to one of a dozen destinations. The rules are simple: the first person to scan each appearing code has the chance to claim that flight. If someone misses a code, they can wait for the next one. The opportunities continue until all 100 have been revealed. If you’re there and scan a QR code, you’ll be sent here.
The event marks one of Spirit’s most ambitious promotional activations of the year, merging holiday excitement with the energy of Times Square. Travelers, locals, and passersby are invited to participate and compete for a seat on Spirit’s network. The giveaway runs from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM ET at 5 Times Square.

Anthony’s Take: This is a fun giveaway and a way to drum up excitement and positive sentiment during the holidays. Some might question Spirit giving away anything at the moment, but I think it’s a nice gesture and should drive some additional sales.
