Back in February, I wrote about JetBlue opening up voting to customers to decide on its next custom livery. Today, Puerto Rico’s largest airline has unveiled Isla del Bluencanto, a vibrant new Airbus A320 livery designed by Puerto Rican artist Juan Gutiérrez Rovira (known as The Stencil Network). The winning design reflects Puerto Rico’s rich culture and identity while strengthening the bond between the island and JetBlue. The aircraft was revealed at The Flight Park at San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) where the community and JetBlue crewmembers joined to celebrate the launch.
The livery blends artistry and cultural symbolism into a bold tribute to Puerto Rico and its diaspora across JetBlue’s network. Key design elements include:
- The Jíbaro: Featured prominently on the tail, representing Puerto Rico’s rural heritage, resilience, and values.
- Fruits and Flora: Tropical fruit and native plants surround the design, symbolizing the island’s vibrancy and biodiversity.
- Somos Boricua: The phrase “We are Puerto Rico” emblazoned on the aircraft belly, serving as a visible declaration of unity and identity.
This is JetBlue’s second special livery dedicated to Puerto Rico, following Bluericua in 2018.
The airline launched the livery competition with three designs created by Puerto Rican artists Juan Gutiérrez, Elizabeth Barreto, and Natalia Nicole. Gutiérrez’ concept was selected through public voting. Ahead of the unveiling, JetBlue partnered with the Ricky Martin Foundation to host an art initiative where children created their own tailfin designs. Their work was displayed at the event, underscoring JetBlue’s investment in local creativity and youth.
For more than 23 years, JetBlue has served Puerto Rico as its largest airline, with major operations in San Juan, Aguadilla, and Ponce. San Juan has been one of JetBlue’s six focus cities since 2012. This winter, JetBlue will operate over 45 daily flights to and from Puerto Rico, offering more seats and destinations to the US mainland than any other carrier. Expanded service includes increased Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to/from San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) flights.
JetBlue also plays an important role in the island’s economy by employing nearly 800 crewmembers and supporting tourism growth. In December 2024, the airline opened its first crew base outside the continental US in San Juan, now home to both pilots and inflight crewmembers.

Anthony’s Take: I love custom liveries and JetBlue does them better than just about any carrier. With this one, JetBlue not only pays homage to Puerto Rican culture but also reaffirms its long-term commitment to the island.
