Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff for summer travel. All predictions said that this weekend was going to be bigger than any we’ve seen in years and they were right. The Transportation Security Administration saw 2.658 million passengers pass through security on Thursday and over 2.7 million on Friday, which was the highest number screened since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The TSA expects the agency to screen over ten million passengers over the holiday weekend. I can report that Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) were both jam packed on Thursday and Friday while I was en route to Exuma. But, in both cases I was through security in under ten minutes thanks to a combination of TSA PreCheck and CLEAR.
Anthony’s Take: If this weekend is any indication, we’ll see busy airports all summer long. Arrive early, be patient, and sign up for TSA PreCheck, CLEAR, or both to speed things up.
