Marriott announced today that it has signed an agreement with Solana PA, S.R.L. to bring the St. Regis Hotels & Resorts brand to Costa Rica. The hotel will be located on the Gulf of Papagayo in the Guanacaste region (where other luxury hotels like the Four Seasons and Andaz (my review here) are located). The resort is slated for a 2027 opening, but these things do tend to push out as construction gets going.
The new-build St. Regis Papagayo will offer 120 rooms and 143 residential units, six food and beverage venues, including Casa Club (for casual gourmet dining), The Cliff (with Japanese and Costa Rican influences), a Beach Club & Grill, the signature St. Regis Bar, and others. Other amenities include the St. Regis Library, multiple swimming pools, a spa, an exclusive beach club, and event and meeting space.
Uriel Burak, Marriott International Vice President, Development, Caribbean and Latin America (CALA), said:
This extraordinary development underscores our continued commitment to expanding our luxury portfolio in key destinations across the Caribbean and Central America. Costa Rica continues to experience growing demand for high-end travel and residential offerings, and we are proud to work with Solana PA, S.R.L. to bring the first St. Regis hotel and residences to Costa Rica.”
Alberto Halabe, Partner at Solana, added:
We are honored to bring the iconic St. Regis brand to Costa Rica and to create a landmark destination in one of the most exceptional oceanfront settings in the region. This project reflects our deep appreciation for Costa Rica’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and environmental stewardship. Together with Marriott International, we look forward to delivering a resort and residential experience that embodies the spirit of Pura Vida through the unmatched elegance and service of St. Regis.”
Anthony’s Take: I did not like the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort, Costa Rica, by Hyatt, overall. I found service meh and the whole experience just okay. Costa Rica is beautiful and this area of the country particularly so. St. Regis is my favorite brand and this resort might bring me back.
