AV geeks and nostalgic travelers have something new to be excited about. The Pan Am Hotel by Hilton is set to open in late spring 2026 at the Citadel Outlets in Los Angeles. The hotel looks to bring together the mid-century aesthetics of the original Pan Am era with modern conveniences and amenities found in luxury hotels.

The Pan Am Hotel will be part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection and will feature Pan Am-inspired artwork and designs throughout the property. The hotel is located attached to an outlet mall that’s around eight miles from downtown Los Angeles.

The property is part of a larger expansion of the outlets and will also see the addition of the “Grand Fountain,” which has been designed by the same group as the Bellagio Fountain in Las Vegas. The planned show will bring together water, light, fire, and motion.

While the nod to the airline looks more subtle than the TWA Hotel at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK), which is one part TWA museum and one part a nice way to preserve the original Eero Saarinen building that was constructed in 1962. I have lots of issues with that hotel from its high prices to the nickel-and-diming that now plagues guests staying there. My husband surprised me with a birthday stay when it first opened in 2019. I loved all of the vintage decor, but don’t think I’d stay there again based on the poor service, price, and the fact that even the pool requires reservations.

There are no details yet around the number of rooms, but amenities will include two full-service restaurants, a fitness center, and rooms equipped with large storage areas to accommodate oversized luggage (based on the thought that guests will be shopping while staying here).

Steven Craig, the President of Craig Realty Group, describes the project as:

Our vision for Citadel Outlets has always been to create more than just a shopping center — we’re building a global destination that inspires wonder and connection. With the addition of the Pan Am Hotel by Hilton and The Grand Fountain, we’re reimagining what’s possible — bringing together design, innovation, and hospitality to deliver something truly unforgettable.”

Anthony’s Take: I definitely want to check out this hotel, but have tempered expectations for it to be anything like the TWA Hotel, which even has an old plane on site. The design looks cool and modern. Here’s hoping they pull in some retro memorabilia.

As a huge Pan Am fan the ultimate avgeek trip would be staying there and doing The Pan Am Experience. I’ll wait for some reviews but even with the dubious location I’m inclined to visit L.A. for the first time in decades just to stay there. If it succeeds I wonder if they’ll do more.
